What is Holistic Wellness?

Holistic is defined as: “characterized by the belief that the parts of something are intimately interconnected and explicable only by reference to the whole”. It’s as simple as that. What that means in terms of healing is that holistic wellness considers the whole person ─ body, mind, spirit, and emotions ─ in the quest for optimal health.

In holistic wellness, it is believed that a whole person is made up of several interdependent parts that boil down to ─ the mind, body, and soul. In this way, if people have imbalances (physical, emotional, or spiritual) in their lives, it can negatively affect their overall health. It about about looking at our health as the “bigger picture” and understanding that when one area is off-balance, it can affect the entire system.

Doctors are trained to help us fight illness, ease pains, generally alleviate our symptoms. However, a holistic doctor will likely take a look at all the potential factors that may be causing the person’s headaches, such as other health problems, diet and sleep habits, stress and personal problems, and preferred spiritual practices. Aromatherapy is the practice of using plant materials and aromatic plant oils, including essential oils, and other aroma compounds for improving psychological or physical well-being.
